Jan 3, 2026 · Wendy Scholten · Belgian Mare Auction 2026
The Belgian Mare Auction returns on Saturday, 17 January 2026. This auction, featuring a highly interesting collection of broodmares, offers breeders the opportunity to take their breeding programs of showjumping horses to the next level. Choose from mares with a proven track record; mares that have competed at high level in sport themselves or descend from renowned families. Ten of the mares are in foal.
Marco De Wilde of the Belgian Studfarm De Wilde is looking forward to the second edition of the Belgian Mare Auction, which he organizes together with his father, Nico De Wilde. “We had a very successful start in 2024 and were keen to follow it up. This time we have a different location, closer to home, which makes transport of the mares easier. The auction will take place at Loheky Stables in Knesselare, Belgium.”
The Belgian Mare Auction is the only live auction dedicated exclusively to broodmares. This year, the collection consists of 21 mares, as well as a pony to open the auction. Online bidding will again be available. “We did our utmost to put together a strong collection. We want to offer something unique, mares you don’t easily get your hands on. Such mares sell quickly. To prevent that, we purchased mares throughout the year specifically for this auction.”
Sport is deeply embedded in the pedigrees of the auction mares and several highlights stand out. One of them is the ten-year-old 1.50m Grand Prix mare Plots Princess (Plot Blue), ridden and bred by Marcus Ehning. Her dam is Ehning’s former top mare Noltes Kuchengirl, winner of the World Cup Final in Geneva, multiple Nations Cups and Grand Prix’s in Aachen, La Baule and Zurich. Plots Princess also competed at CHIO Aachen at the age of eight, finishing eighth in her class.
There is also expected to be strong interest in Ola Kala de Regor (Darco x Cento), a direct daughter of the famous Centa de Muze. She competed at 1.45m level herself and has already produced well-sold foals, such as Cergy LVP Z (€46,000) and The One Z (€22,000).
The auction collection also includes the full sister of the Olympic stallion Nevados S, a half-sister to Hardrock Z and a half-sister to Uricas van de Kattevennen. Additionally, there is a granddaughter of Spruce Meadows winner Candy, as well as daughters of the famous Prima Donna van ’t Paradijs and H&M Butterfly Flip.
“We are extremely proud to present a collection like this, because there is something interesting behind every mare in the auction. For true connoisseurs, it will be an evening to savor,” says Marco De Wilde.
The collection further features mares from the families of Kashmir Van Schuttershof, Sapphire van ’t Merelsnest, Hortensia van de Leeuwerk, Pacino, Walnut de Muze, Carthina Z and Itot du Chateau. “We have ten mares with Olympic blood in the damline, talk about a unique collection… It is definitely worth coming to take a look.”
The doors of Loheky Stables will open on Saturday evening, 17 January. From 7:00 p.m., everyone is welcome to view the mares, enjoy a performance and join the auction team for a drink. The auction itself will start around 8:15 p.m. Entrance is free. “We hope to see you all there for an interesting and enjoyable evening!”
